Poultry Portraits

Every farm has its characters, and these are some of ours. None of them booked a sitting, and a few of them made it very clear they had better places to be.

White rooster with a red comb standing in sunny grass beside a wire fence
The official portrait. He insisted on being photographed first, and nobody argued.
Two muddy ducks, one a Muscovy, standing in tall green grass
Two ducks who showed up for their portrait sitting straight from the mud puddle. They see no problem with this.
A group of young barred chicks standing on wood shavings in a brooder
The class photo. Everyone showed up, but only a few of them looked at the camera.
A white rooster with a red comb and two white hens in front of a coop
The family portrait. He's the one who insisted on standing in the middle.
A group of black hens and one barred hen standing in a coop doorway
The welcoming committee. Every visitor gets inspected.
Yellow chicks huddled around a red feeder under a warm heat lamp
The baby pictures. Everyone gets embarrassed by these eventually.
Four ducklings, two yellow and two brown, swimming in a plastic kiddie pool
The swim team. Practice is going well, if nobody asks about the splashing.
